Comparison of wikis and an electronic lab notebook for use by labs in documenting and sharing experimental research data and other information. Explains how the electronic lab notebook eCAT, like wikis, provides an online collaborative environment. But unlike wikis eCAT allows the addition of structure, from templates or created by the user, to data. This means that, unlike wikis, eCAT can become a single, integrated collaborative environment in which labs can record and share experimental data as well as general information like meeting notes and protocols.
