I always thought of this as a sad song and there is something about a comedian singing a sad some that really gets to me. I think he sang it at the end of his short lived 90 minute variety show on ABC in the early '60's. The show crashed and burned, that had to be a crushing blow for him and then Dean Martin's show did so well later. I thought of this song again lately since someone very dear to me passed away very suddenly way before her time.

I LOVE Jerry Lewis....sooooo funny, so caring, so talented....he's one of the BEST! Love how he sings this song. He is a comic genius...I just have to think of that scene in the dining room in "Cinderfella" and I laugh like crazy...LOVE when he is reading the inscription on the ring...OMG....soooooo funny!

jerry has a really good voice. when I saw "the delicate delinquent", I was enchanted. I wish that I could have the "just sings" album. I wish that for years...

I used to listen to Terry Knight on CKLW, Windsor, Ontario every night in the mid '60s. He would end his show with this song each and every night. I loved the song the first time I heard it and still do to this day. Great lyrics, outstanding arrangement and orchestration and Jerry's voice is nothing short of perfect. One of the most fantastic songs of all time.
