'We are not used to having democracies attacked', says former US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. He says Washington didn't encourage Georgia to start the war.
I liked that sarcasm bit, as for 30 years of imperialism, we can cut that down to the past 18, since anything before is ok due to the fact that the cold war was still going on
Ohh, come on...those are for "Europe's Defense" (sarcasm)
I think both sides have some blame to share, but over the last 30 years its been the US going out and carrying on like an imperial power. Its embarassing.
I agree that on both sides many people from cold war era are still in government, but one side, i think is trying to make peace more than the other. Russia isnt putting missiles on US border
You say Russia is very different and I agree, the populace is different. As it is in the US.
But we still have a large amount of the same policy makers, military intelligence, etc from the era.
I don't think these people truly understand its over. I don't think they know how to operate without war, at least not here in the states. And thats why we are involved in so many international events, but never the truly morally justified
And yet most overlook that question and keep pointing the finger at russia, even though the cold was has been over for almost 20 years and russia now is very different from what it was.
This guy is so full of shit. Every answer is practiced. He never gives a clear answer or position on any topic. And his ideas and positions on many topics have double standards. Its ok for US to do something but not for russia.
In a volatile Eurasia, the immediate task is to ensure that no state or combination of states gains the ability to expel the United States or even diminish its decisive role. (Zbigniew Brzezinski, A Geostrategy For Eurasia, Foreign Affairs, 1997).

I wasn't defending our the US here, I was defending Armitage as being considered categorically wrong.
Not sure if you have a way to find them, but you'll notice how I compare our vilifying of Russia in this specific event to what we did in Iraq.
I've asked the same question, why is it ok for us, but not for others?

Hey, its ok to defend one's own country, but not when one's country has stepped over the line, case in point, the US

what about "people used to ask us why we didn't remove Saddam from power in Desert Storm, they don't ask us that question any more"
Or
"Our system broke, its broken" when talking about the lead-up to the war in Iraq.
No topic has a uniform answer.
