Traditional song, according to Ntesa Dalienst. Anybody can tell me more about that?

On this one label we find two alternative namings for Franco: Lo-Kangalwa-Djo Pene Lwambo Makiadi was the composer and Lo-Langalwa-Djo Pene Lwambo Makiadi et Orch. TP OK-Jazz played it.

Sung by Sam Mangwana, Lola Chécain (also percussion), Michèl Boyibanda and Lwambo.

Concerning the alto sax solo, I would put my money on Isaac Musekiwa.

Franco & Simaro: guitars, Decca: bass, Ntoya: batterie, Dessoin: percussion.

  • According to Nzau Diop the song "Ou Est Le Serieux?" was Franco's jab at three musicians who were not serious about their work: Youlou, Bitshou and Mosese. The trio had left OK Jazz the previous year to join the competition, Vicky's Lovy du Zaire.

  • Another yet classic. Have you noticed that TPOK JAZZ troops did not only produce sweet music but delivered some meaningful message to the audience? Oh boy and the strings? Luambo could pick them. The guy is gone and we are in for a very very very long haul before Africa can see (probably never) another genius on both vocals and strings like him. A rare kind.

Mate. When I get married, me and my missus will have this music playing.... and kick open the door at the back of the hall at precisely 2:59 above. And fucking boogie....

  • This is practically the song that launched Sam Mangwana. What a tune! They used to play it a lot on Radio Tanzania's "Hongera" programme in the evenings and I'd tune in just to hear it. Still gives me the shivers. Thank you for keeping these African/Lingala classics alive!
