Every so often, a new version of firefox will be released, but many extensions will lose compatibility for no reason.
When many people create extensions, they limit the installation to the versions available when they were making the new extension. What makes this bad is that many of them will stop maintaining the extension and it will never get updated.

Since firefox is designed around extensions, it's way of working with them remains the same for the most part.

Many of my extensions were limited to firefox 2.0 but little fix allowed me to use them again in newer versions of firefox.

in case the video is not clear, here are the steps

Step 1: redownload the extension and save it to your desktop
Step 2: open the extension file with a program like winzip or winrar
Step 3: extract the install.rdf file
Step 4: open the install.rdf file with notepad
Step 5: edit the like that says em:maxVersion=, with a version thats higher than your current version of firefox
Step 6: save changes
Step 7: drag and drop the install.rdf file into the winrar or winzip window and have it add and replace files

Step 8: drag and drop the extension file onto the firefox window and install it

Finished yay: the extension should now be seen as compatible with firefox,

probably 99.9% of extensions seen as not being compatible with firefox will actually work just fine in a newer version of firefox

  • Thanks. I hate when cookies with a "Remember me" setting, expire in less than a week. There is no reason for that crap. The Add N Edit Cookies addon, of course, was only supported to Firefox 3.0.x at the latest.

  • thanks love this kind of stuff

  • Thank you !

The key is 'Step 5: edit the like that says em:maxVersion=, with a version that's higher than your current version of firefox'
