This was back when Branford Marsalis was leading the Tonight Show Band, which he wasn't really into and eventually quit. But Branford's soprano sax lines sound quite nice here.

Robert Palmer's vocals are great live, but Leno's band really sucks bad. they ruined Robert's performance. Some Joker in Leno's band is Truly TONE DEAF. Talk about Outta Key.

Musicallife - I agree with you. Robert Palmer has great vocals live.... but the band here...something is not right....!

Definitely one of his best songs, but there was something strange about the performance. Someone, or something, was out of tune??

This might have been his last appearance on the Tonight Show in the US - He was a semi regular when Leno hosted. I don't think he did "Tonight" in 1999 when the R&B album came out although he did do Letterman and Good Morning America.

Thanks for posting--love this song. Am I hearing things, or is the band really off? I'm also sorry the only thing Leno felt compelled to ask about was the "dancing goils", as Palmer would have called them. But that more people knew how incredibly versatile he was!

Just listening to this video for the first time...and YES the band is REALLY off! They sound nothing close to the original recording..and it's throwing Robert's great voice off a little..IMO...

Love the fact that he said he liked 'plus-size, (valuptious) women as opposed to the 'norm'. I'm a plus size girl..and it's very flattering to know that ROBERT PALMER liked us!!!!
