  • @windrowcompost05 Not intentional. Was only added to show a friend (for temporary), forgot about it and then got a message from the nephew of the lady featured in the piece loving it, so I kept it up. If HGTV or Paul James wanted it down, they'd have had YouTube remove it. It was posted prior to any message from Youtube regarding copyrighted videos (look at the post date) You shouldn't make false accusations. If someone with authority asked me to remove it, I would and quite easily.

  • how does this work with the winter freeze

  • @clamcrabber I empty mine about a third and if an ice block forms, it has room to swell to the top of the barrel. I then put the chute back on the downspout and let the water flow regularly onto the lawn so I don't add more water in the barrels. I like to have a cache of water in the barrelsin case the spring is drier than normal.

  • Suggestion...if the top of your barrel is completely open it will be a good home for mosquito larvae. If this is your case, just drop a goldfish or two in the barrel, they'll eat all of the larvae and you won't have a mosquito problem.

  • I screen-off the opening on mine. I have an open barrel also and drop in a mosquito dunk for that one.

  • No matter what you do you are pretty likely to get mosquitos. So you put 1 or 2 fish in there and badaboom!! Fish are happy and the fish add vital nutrients to the water for your plants. And they eat the larvae.

  • good vid thx

  • Excellent video on building a rain barrel. Thanks.

  • This sounds like a great idea. I would like to do this but where I live we get so much rain, I don't know what I'd do with the excess water.

  • The overflow should be connected back to the drain. Top end of downpipe should go straight to drum without silly cut out bits. That leaves the bottom part of the downpipe free for the overflow pipe.

  • FORTY PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why don't you tell windrowcompost05 to mind his own Goddamn Business. This is a Learning Video and it sounds like to me, He has a lot of learning to Do so he ought to watch this a few times. I'm sure he's never done anything that people could question. People always gotta stick their noses in. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.

  • a teaspoon of metho will sit on top and stop mosquito larvae growing.
