You can get one here: http://amzn.to/dTXLYJ This video was shot at full quality MXP setting. Defaults are 24P 60i Standard setting. Audio via built in microphones. I am not an audio/video expert (obviously! :D) so I just shot some random stuff today since I was going to go out with out the car and hit the streets.

Everything was shot hand held (it makes me remember how shaky my hands are!) and I think the only setting I changed was engaging digital zoom to 60x (the smaller of the two options). I dragged the .MTS files to my hard drive, edited it, and then rendered as a 1080p .m2t file. Shot at various BART stations and downtown San Francisco near Market & Davis.

*** update ***
I was asked what programs edit the avchd files out of the camcorder and I found a nice summary on the internet. Here it is:

* Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate version provides an end-to-end HD video editing workflow, including native HDV and AVCHD editing ($99). It did the best job of working with AVCHD videos on my system — opening, playing, editing, and exporting with good response. Studio could browse quickly though the AVCHD folder structure, view thumbnails of the clip files, and then click to preview the clips. The interface was very responsive, dragging the slider to scan though the clip, playing fast forward and reverse modes at 2, 4, and 10X speeds, and even resizing the application window while playing video. It also has a handy full-screen playback mode.

* Apple iMovie 08 supports standard and high definition video, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and now AVCHD ($79). However, Apple currently lists only a few AVCHD camcorders as tested and supported. AVCHD support also requires an Intel-based Mac.Corel Ulead

* VideoStudio 11 Plus version supports HD formats including AVCHD and MPEG-2 HD ($129). It would not open individual AVCHD files, but it could import clips from a folder. VideoStudio was a bit sluggish when dealing with AVCHD files. It took seconds to switch between the editing steps.

* Sony Vegas Studio 8 Platinum supports HD video, including HDV capture and editing ($119). It also supports AVCHD import and edit, but only from Sony camcorders.

* CyberLink PowerDirector 6 supports high-definition video editing, with the HDV format for capture, editing, and export back to tape ($89).

* Nero Vision 4 supports HDV and AVCHD editing (part of the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced suite, $79). It processed HDV files after renaming to .MPG, and played and scanned though AVCHD files.

  • That guy plays it like he stole it. I mean really. Man my ears.

  • @SvenOkonomi *cough* dynamic range test *cough*, lol :D

  • @tinfamily Well atleast it helps move traffic along. ;) I wandered over here because im on the fence about either this one or the panasonic TM700. The Panny is significantly more expencive and im not sure the price justifies it. ;)

  • @SvenOkonomi TBH I shoot a whole lot more still than video. I think my next camcorder may very well be whatever comes out higher than the new 3100 Nikon just announced. Then I can carry one device for both jobs AND have access to all my nice Nikon lenses and control over DoF etc... :) That's my plan going forward in about 2 years I think. I'm pretty happy with the Canon, and the price point was good enough for me. The lavalier microphone makes a big difference for on location narration.

  • Why at /watch?v=FX-29I8DYeo and /watch?v=4VX1zlZiGVY videos were shaked, but this normal?)

  • @XtaticVideo I experienced that too. In fact. Trying to record on my motorcycle it was nearly completely unusable. I suspect it's the way Canon does the anti-shake. When it's engine frequency vibration it makes the whole thing look like shaking jello. It's horrible.

I bought a GoPro HD Hero for movement videos and as you can see in the last two motorcycle ride videos, it handles movement very well.

The Canon is great at many things. Being on vibrating equipment is not one.

  • What are you talking about? Thats one nice guitarist..

Concerning the camera - I agree, I have also got the impression that the "anti-shake" system is not so good on the hf20.

  • @SvenOkonomi
