A short clip from MacIntyre's "Ave Maria," now available on our newest double-cd release, Heaven & Earth!
In this unusual setting for a cappella six-part women's chorus, Canadian composer David MacIntyre sets only the two words of the title "Ave" and "Maria" (Hail Mary). Written in 1994, the composer was inspired by the daily visitations of the Virgin Mary to a small group of children and adults in war-torn Bosnia-Herzegovina. He felt the visitations were celebratory in nature and were connected to the feminine divine. These qualities are represented in his music by repeating words as a mantra, and by skillfully using rests to create open space for a sense of mystery, anticipation and hope.
Really beautiful work - an inspiring rendition. Can't wait to rehearse and perform the piece.
