Being free tech support to family, I made this video to help my mother fix her Mac. When "Repair Disk" is greyed out, you have to do it from the original Install disk. Remember back up, just in case. Hope it helps others too. Good luck, and see you on the other side!

  • hi there! i was wondering if you don't backup your computer, is it possible to keep all your files?

  • @gossipgirlrox18 Yes, you won't lose your files doing Repair Disk from Disk Utility. However if you find an unrepairable disk and can't access your files, I recommend making a dmg image backup from Disk Utility (Click "New Image", save to EXTERNAL hard drive). It will save a lot of potential heartache.

  • when i insert the mac os x installation cd and try to start up my mac with it by pressing C nothing happens.. all it does is stays on the apple logo for a bit with the loader wheel and then it goes to a grey screen saying to restart my computer in a bunch of different languages.... and thats all it does each time i do this. how do i make it work? if you can please inform me.

  • @Destroymaster100 by startup volume I mean the operating system disc. Do the same thing as instructed in the video at about 1:40 to run Startup disk again to boot from your hard drive after it repairs.

  • how much time does it take,,,bcz when i press c its on normal dont show me anything..
