i think this game is very original, i've never heard of RPG game which takes the whole world legend as a base story, like Shadow Hearts Series

I only started playin this game a few days ago (im desperate for an RPG atm since Final Fantasy XIII is takin ages) but im finding this game very fun. I do not know why it is so underrated.

Reasons why this game is underrated is because it was released a week before FFX (Bad move) so it had to struggle with a giant franchise apon release .
Also it doesn't help that the game was made by a unheard of company(Sacnoth who became Nautilus ) in the states and was puplished by midway.

Also the reviews were somewhat mixed, some gave the game a low score claiming that it lacked originality, while others praised it for being original and innovative. So it kinda hurt the game also.
But if you enjoy this game you'll love the 2nd one (Covenant ) more and the 3rd game (From the new World) tho not as great but is still a fantastic game will really give you your rpg fix you need.

And if you want some thing different there is a crossover game called Chaos Wars that has Shadow Hearts characters along with several from gaming companies like Atlus, RED Entertainment , and Idea Factory .
If you do play that one set it to jap because the eng dub is the worst I have ever heard.

I'm an RPG fiend, but I must say this game surpasses them all. I've lost sleep over games, but not as much as I did to finish this one.
The soundtrack, the details, the system... Combo system is better in Covenant by far. However it cannot beat the essence of the first. FTNW not having Yuri annoyed me.

Late reply I know. Not having Yuri didn't annoy me that much but what did annoy me was Shania.
Fusions are meant to be monsterious not sexy and she had th e Cloud complex which is what ruined it for me.
