My first Akai MPC 500 beat making tutorial. I sampled Drunken Tiger's 8:45 - an amazing deep song.

No need to keep sampling old soul joints - try something new!

I sampled straight from youtube and used Audacity to chop up the slices. The video runs through the chops and also the 5 sequences used to make the song. The full arrangement is at the end - feel free to take the instrumental and rap/sing over it and post a response.

I think the MPC 500 is the greatest of them all - no joke. You can pretty much do anything that the MPC 5000 can do - and you can run it from batteries and take it travelling.

It's not about the equipment, its about how you use it!

If you have any questions, please drop me a comment.

Check out my other videos - next time I'll probably do a quick beat video using Cubase and Native Instruments Komplete!

Send Me A Job - I am currently looking for employment - I love making music wish I could turn my hobby into a career.

  • Sampling and its best. Nice job.

  • @OutCrowdBeats

Cheers - check out my latest video!

  • with all do respect dude. Its one thing to get on youtube to market yourself. But to me, it just seems like you're just showing off. This was a waste of my time. Especially that reason 5 video. If you're not going to help anyone, why are you here dude?

  • @davusicion Fair comment, but i disagree, its always useful to see other peoples workflow. Probably more so than if he was treating it as a tutorial. Just my 2 cents..

  • @whatbass

    Thanks

  • @davusicion

That reason 5 video is to support propellerheads and stop/delay people downloading their software illegally.

This is not meant to be a tutorial video - it is literally me showing off the chops in the beat and how to play them back.

Thanks for watching anyway and taking the time to comment.

  • @davusicion to help himself out asshole.. you dont have to watch his vid and hate.. if you dont like something you dont have to watch and leave negative comments.. jealousy is never a good thing..

  • yeah man!

  • @sendmeajob thank you for the answere.

if i buy an mpc i´ll probably not go for the 500 if you cant see the wave form

  • @MegaCavalier23

I think it comes with a power supply and usb cable only. The cords you see in the video are to go from the MPC to my soundcard - which can be purchased for cheap in any electronic shop- obviously if you spend more you get better cables, but everyone records to shitty MP3 quality these days anyway so there is no point spending bucks on oxygen free cables.

  • @facedownsupport

You can chop straight on the mpc - but as it doesnt have a wave form display or automatic hitpoint detection - its quite slow to chop as you have to do it manually.

It is done by loading a sound on the mpc then using the scrollwheel to set the start and end points of the sample then you export that as a new chopped sample to a pad, then repeat for the next slice.

  • can you chop straight on the mpc 500 or do you have to do it on your pc/mac.

    greets

  • when u buy an AKAI Product do all da plug in cords come wit it??
