This is a video of my playing 1984 composed by Van Halen. I'm playing it on my keytar (on a stand, yes I know, CRAZY, right?) which is controlling the KORG R3 through MIDI. The patch sounds you hear are %100 created and edited by me. I took the liberty of naming the patch "1984Pads" as well. I LOVE the KORG R3. It's virtual analog, yes, but don't overlook it because of this. You can do SO much with this synth. It's truely an amazing piece of gear.

  • Can you explain to me how connecting the keytar and the Korg R3 works? Does it take the sounds from the Korg R3 and play them through the keytar?

  • @RapRockandSoul Sure. The keytar basically sends signals via the MIDI output, and tells the R3 what notes to play, how to play them, when to play them, etc. The keytar's MIDI out is connected to the R3's MIDI in. This allows the Keytar to control the R3's sounds. Not neccissarily take them, but CONTROL them. Make sense? :D

  • Major props bro! Your patch is the only one one Youtube that rivals mine. Great job; I'm impressed.

  • Thank You VERY much. That means a lot to me man, especially coming from you. Yeah, I think we have the best patches on YouTube as far as I'm concerned. Next to the actual song. :D

  • thank you, took me a while to get the patch right! :)

  • LOL, thanks for the thoughtfull comment! :D

  • VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL OB!!!!

As the McLaren dude with the alesis ion said, you two hold the best patches on youtube... Hope someday I could get as great as you two in synthesis.

    Cheers from a new fan!

  • Damn you are a genious man, I have known throughout my life so many keyboardists trying to get that sound, but yours is amazingly similar

  • Great job and great sounds, really good..!!!! If I may make a very small criticism you got the notes very slightly wrong at 2.22 and the section between 2.41~ 2.45 was ever so slightly wrong, otherwise it was a perfect performance, well done indeed...!!

  • Fantastic, perfect, awesome..... =D
