  • I am following in your footsteps. Question: Did you have to buy a data cable and a power cable or were they already there in the bays, waiting for the HDD to be installed? Also, what steps were required after the physical install? Did you need to go into the BIOS or Manage Computer? Sorry if I sound like a n00b. It's because I am a n00b, LOL. Thanks.

  • @TheTogliat Haha all good dude. All the cables will already be there in the bays pre-installed by Dell when they ship the system. So for the physical install it's really just as simple as plugging the cables in. Once it's installed and you boot the system, there's nothing you should have to do in the BIOS or in MMC. Once you log into Windows, it will recognize another drive is present, and if it is a bare drive it will ask you to format the drive and assign it a drive letter.

  • @TheTogliat If it's a drive that has been used before, it will automatically assign it a drive letter and since it's been formatted it will be ready to use and show up in my computer.

  • good vid alienware is ta best

  • Dell installs Seagate drives in their alienware. Seagate has a poor track record for these drives. Mine failed after 3 months. Putting in a WD is the best thing I have ever done.

  • @AiRriDe911 The one that came with the system is a Seagate. And the one that I installed is a Western Digital.

  • @micger1785 Plus, would the lights be on if it was powered off? I wouldn't install an HDD in a running machine.

  • @milkyraver Yes it is necessary to use a flashlight. I have the standard Aurora, only the ALX version comes with the "theater lighting" that you are referring to. My version only provides the lighting at the front of the system for the optical drives.

  • doesn't the desktop already have lighting.. is it necessary to use a flashlight when it has the lighting?
