Man I like to just sit back and imagine myself there with those guys. On the Amphtrac as you near the shore...all the sounds, the planes overhead, the door lowers, and you're off to meet your fate. Those guys were the best generation!!!!!!!!
@KarmicJuggernaut I had 3 Granduncles in the Pacific War in the Marines & 2 in Europe in the Army. My Grandfather was in Europe also. Granduncle Quinten G. Nelson was a Heavy Machine Gun Crewman in 2nd Marine Division I/3/6 on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, & Saipan, Granduncle Raymond H. Nelson was a artillery crewman in H/2/12th 3rd Marine Division, Bougainville, Guam, & Iwo Jima & Melvin H. Nelson was a rifleman & squad leader in B/1/24th 4th Marine Division Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, & Iwo Jima.
my great uncle Marty was a marine when talking about this he alwasy says i cant believe i made it out alive. He tells me of when once the door opened his friend was first to get out and was immediatly shot in the head hi commanding officer pulled him in and pushed my great uncle out. He said his commanding officer the man that would never cry cried more then anyone else. War turns everyone into people desperate for peace. But our troops in WWII were no doubt the greatest generations
@MrDNK1981 Even the most experienced bad ass guys shit their pants before walking on shore in a war like this. Literally. Read Robert Sherrods books on Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo etc.
