I wrote this song about 25 years ago. One from the vaults, as it were.... I wrote it when they began the peace talks in El Salvador, which, amazingly enough, led to peace in that country. I wrote it on my old Gibson when I was first starting to play live, and I've been playing some of those old songs the last couple of days since my Martin is in the shop getting a refret. Been feeling guilty about neglecting my old compadre, anyway.

Today is the eighth anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan. We all should be asking the question, "Why are we still there?"

In 2006, we turned leadership of both houses of congress over to the other party, but we are still at war. Why? Last November we turned the whitehouse over to that party, but we are still at war. Why? If there is anything for our country to "win" in that place, I don't see what it is. Eight years is eight years too long. On this anniversary, our new president should be announcing troop withdrawals, but instead he is preparing to send more of our young people into that hellhole. I voted for the man, and I wished him well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdP3BBvDYg4
But he is going to have to stand for reelection and he is going to have to explain to us why he should remain in power...

This is a song of change, and a song of hope. Peace talks in La Palma led to peace when noone thought they would. When are we going to see peace talks in Kabul, Mr. Obama. Where is the change we were promised, and where is the hope?

  • My feeling is that a president should sit for five years and that's it, no re-election blues, because it's all just politics and jockeying for position. So many arses to kiss, deals to be made; more than someone with great intentions can probably navigate without getting scarred.

I agree Archie, we need to get out! It's senseless. Thanks for being a beacon MyFriend...

  • Too much money is allowed into the system for democracy to function the way it's supposed to, and war is primarily about money. Your idea is a good one, Michael. I'd vote for it.

  • Sounds Great Archie!!! I Agree with your Text.. all is Never what it seems..as we Entertain The Prospect of Peace In Our Dreams...The World is Full Of Hate or at Least that is How It seems!!!..War is Carried On By 2 Or More Not 1 ...and will only End When All Lay Down That Gun....

  • Right on, brother...

  • Great ole song, and great ole guitar.

I know what you mean by feeling a bit

guilty not playing it. They're like part of the family.

  • My friend we will live to see the fall of the USA. Our leaders play games while we burn. We are so doomed and have lost all control. Its sad but history shows us the future.

    5* for a great song!
