A couple of days ago some caring folks in the middle of town found this little Opossum joey wandering alone in the road after a bit of stormy weather. Nearby one of his siblings lay dead. They could have been victims of the storm, a domestic dog or cat attack or a vehicle may have hit their mother dislodging the little joeys. However the little guy ended up in the street the folks that saved this little Opossums life did a great thing by feeding him, keeping him warm and giving him the name Frankie. They then called me to take care of him until he was old enough to fend for himself. He is doing very well now and I will release him soon into the wild to live free as a 'possum should.

NOTE: I made an error in my commentary where I stated that Opossums have 52 teeth, more than any north American mammal. That was incorrect, they actually only have 50 teeth, more than any north American LAND mammal--our north American seagoing mammals such as Dolphins and whales have many more than 50 teeth.

  • Absolutely precious little thing! I would love to be a wildlife rehabilitator. I'm not sure that that would pay the bills, but that'd be my ideal job :)
