  • great video, especially the start up. I wish i could have understood what he was saying. Is two minutes the amount of time required for cooldown?

  • Yes, two minutes are required to ventilate and cool down the turbine before to cut off gas. After you cut off, you must watch the turbine temperature during at least 1 minute because it will increase a bit. If the température increase over 350°C and fast, you have to press the starter to ventilate. Then you can battery off, not before.

Unfortunately, its long and difficult to tranlate and subtitle french speaking...

  • You need 3 factors to get into "Vortex Ring State". Low airspeed, more than a 300FPM descent and pulling power. Remove any of those and you prevent it from happening, If you do get into it, the best way out is forward cyclic to get out of your column of descending air.

  • Thats the blade motion detection instrument

  • @xiangdn Thanks for the answer.

Just curious. How practical would it be to instal an air conditioning system in a 206?

  • are these ever equipped with an auto pilot?

  • I want this guy to tech me to fly...

  • @Kirov686 Vortex Ring State, Settling with Power. Same thing. It think they use the term Settling with Power in the US.

  • Awesome video!

  • How much did you or are you paying for each hour and how long are training for? What qualification do we need to start flying one of these baby? Cheers.

  • Well, they made it back alive in one piece with no damage to heli. I'd say it was successful. That sure looks like fun. I gotta get me one of those thangs!

  • Loss of Tail rotor effectiveness doesn't have anything to do with winds? Maybe the military and civilian world just uses different terminology. I'm familiar with the wind azimuths, such as Vortex Ring State, Weathercock, and Disc Vortex State. I'm guessing we're talking about the same thing, just using different terms. I'm only familiar with what the military has taught me.

  • Loss of tail rotor effectiveness is something completely different. For that you should be able to check in the POH for what's called the "Critical Wind Azimuth". It will show from all around the clock how strong the winds can be before you run out of tail rotor authority.

  • Vortex Ring State? Do you mean Settling with Power? I was always taught that the Vortex Ring State only has to do with a Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness because of winds. Granted both are technically the same effect, but happening to different systems on the helicopter.
