Southern Region Mark 1 Slam door EMUs are seen at Clapham Junction and London Waterloo. CIG VEP CEP and BEP units are included. Note the immaculate condition of the South West Trains CEP units with only a few weeks left in service. The South Western division always kept their trains cleaner than the Central or Eastern!

  • its good that you used a tripod unlike a lot of people on youtube. great footage.

  • Using a tripod is the first and most important rule. Let the train do the moving not the camera.

  • I'm a SWT guard working out of Basingstoke. My first day out as a guard just over 11 years ago, took a stopper along the coast PH to Soton. Pulling away from Netley we got about 200 yards and came to a stand. Buzzed the driver who said, Cam Controllers gone mate, we'll have to have a push! My first day out! What was the unit? Goto 2.58 and there it is, 1306 a much missed greyhound! Never thought I'd see it again. Many thanks!

  • Oh dear, that was bad luck. I only had one camshaft pack up on me. They were generally very reliable. Thanks for the story.

  • I have been on slam door trains many times especially when I went to Hastings for the day in February 1999.

  • really glad you uploaded this seeing SWT slammers in waterloo brings back a lot of memories added to the favs :D

    Adam

  • brilliantly filmed, 10/10

  • the 442's are now owned buy southern and are used on the gatwick express from brighton

  • ah ok

  • No they all had to be withdrawn by September 2005 as it was made illegal for train operators to use this sort of stock for safety reasons. Virtually all of them have been scrapped, but two still run on the Lymington branch in Hampshire

  • wow slam doors they still use em or are they scrapped

  • Excellent vid mate, myself im a guard out of waterloo but was too late for the slammers and 442s, many missed memories, thanks for the vid.
