Take It Outside - Rodney Jean-Jacques

In the summer of 2005, the city of Philadelphia experienced an alarming increase in the number of people killed by fire. The majority of these deaths occurred in the home. The Philadelphia Fire Department, feeling they had a real need to better educate the public, asked A.P.E. (Artistic Perspective Entertainment) to do a fire prevention music video for the song "Take It Outside" written & performed by city firefighter & Larsiny group member Rodney Jean-Jacques -- a.k.a. Cal Akbar.

A.P.E. signed on in early June and shooting began right away. Days later, the city was rocked by news that five more Philadelphia children had perished in a house fire. The music video was being filmed just this story garnered national attention. It contains footage taken from the scene. Entertainer Stevie Wonder announced he would pay for the children's funerals. Mr. Wonder also met with the children's families during Live 8.

This music video debuted at the 51st Annual Police and Firefighters Scholarship Thrill Show. The Thrill Show benefits the children of police or firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. Akbar was on hand at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in front of a replica "Take It Outside" billboard, autographing copies of the DVD/CD for the over 15,000 persons who attended. Soon after, the Philadelphia Fire Department held a press conference to promote the "Take It Outside" song and music video and also to announce a new citywide contest challenging area students to create their own song and/or music video.

On November 14th, the "Take It Outside" music video was played on the jumbo-tron TV's for the over 67,000 fans in attendance at the Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles & the Dallas Cowboys.

"Take It Outside" is the name of a national campaign for fire prevention designed to educate people to the dangers of smoking in the home, the most common cause of fatal fires. You shouldn't smoke at all, but if you must smoke, take it outside!!!
