The Problem with the Taurus TCP

I see both sides of this. I understand that the manual states to let the trigger fully release, but if I were to encounter this without knowing, I wouldhave been screwed. Thanks for the information, I have one of these on the way and you have given me a valuable piece of information I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

I fired about 100 rounds through a 732 today and while it is true that you can cause this problem playing with the action, it didn't happen to me in actual shooting, slow or rapid fire. If you short stroke a Security Six, it will lock up until you release the trigger and try again, and if you short stroke many S&W revolvers the cylinder will advance but the hammer won't cock and fire. While less than ideal, it is a common flaw to several DA firearms.

I'm glad I saw this video. I was about to buy one from a local dealer that has them for cheap.

Nice informative video. You saw a problem with a gun and showed others. Keep it up. Don't let the haters discourage you from posting up any informative vids. I will say I have the old Kel-Tec p32 and it doesn't do this. It is a hammer fired gun and is DOA all the time. It will not allow for a short reset. Yes a 32 sucks but it was way bigger than a 25 and that was the only available mouse gun at the time. I have one of the first 1000 keltecs produced. I now carry it as a back up to a Glock 23.

wow this is shocking.. I was looking at the TCP and am a fan of Taurus but I can't believe this is normal behavior.. I've never seen this in another gun.
btw who asked you to write the article? I watched that part 3 times and could not make it out.

I would actualy rather have THIS problem (easily remedied by training, like trigger guard training for a Glock) ) that that of the Ruger LCP, which does not even stay open after the last round has been fired. If you end up exchanging fire with someone, and take them down with the last couple of rounds, but aren't certain if the threat has been totaly neutralized yet... Unless you were counting, you really don't KNOW whether the LCP will go bang, or click, if you need to pull the trigger again.

@RAMWV Nope No need to Double check! It does exactly as you describe the Taurus doing. Will it fire pulling the trigger after the first reset/halfcock I don't know I hadn't took it to range to test. Again cycling it dry you get the same results you describe in your video. Try picking one up before you commit to saying it don't. I only took a educated guess saying the ruger could very well do this however I will get my hands on one to confirm or deny this

Thanks for the vid I was looking into buying one but I choose another firearm I am a sig guy and have done ext. training with sigs and am use to the sig SRT and would be in trouble with that firearm. looks like a great fun g=but it is not for me. Thanks
I think you need to go back and read the original blog post this video was linked to. Taurus confirmed that the handgun was designed to function as mine and the dozen or so others I have tested since does.

Maybe yours in broken. Mine was returned twice with a detailed explanation and I was informed twice it was functioning perfectly. BUT, if your TCP works as you have indicated it should be a fine pistol for personal protection.

After over 10,000 views and a lot of comments, many still don't get it. Once again, if you short stroke the trigger on this handgun (by accident like you might when you are getting beat to death or shot at) the gun becomes inoperative and you have to cycle the slide to get it back in action. This is not common with other guns and it is not a good idea for a defensive handgun. You can rationalize this all you want by referencing the instructions or price but it does not change the facts.

@RAMWV After My first comment I went and checked my Kel tec p3at it does exactly the same thing it would stand to reason since that and the Ruger LCP are very very similar designs the ruger does it as well. So I would say yes it is common

@dustyak79 I think if you will try that again with your Keltec you will find that short stroking the trigger does not disable the mechanism like with the Taurus. I know it is NOT the case with the Ruger.

Point taken. However, any one with any firearms training experience will tell you that is a bad design that is opening up the user for failure. You should not be able to render any defensive pistol useless by pulling the trigger....even if you do it in a way the manual cautions against. Bad design. Plain and simple.
