Now, We Will Be Scary.
I was thinking about how different cultures simplify their fears and turn them into characters that they can become. There seems to be something empowering about dressing up like the things that terrify us. Think about Halloween. Or the Nigerian Leprosy mask. Or horror movies. We become strong by becoming scary.
The Method: Ask a child to discuss what they are afraid of. Document this. Ask the child to design a mask based on this fear. Create that mask. Ask the child to wear the mask. Document this. Hope for catharsis.
