The Prokofiev-Shakespeare ballet Romeo & Juliet, in Rudolf Nureyev's choreography, premiered London 1977. This is Nureyev's video of his 1980 La Scala production with himself as Romeo, Carla Fracci as Juliet and Margot Fonteyn as Lady Capulet. Conductor Michel Sasson.

  • Dame Margot: saw her in the 70s. A true treasure for us all

  • I love this choreography! So youthful, energetic, and passionate, it really converts the essence of young love between two teenagers, yet I think it is more technical demanding on the male lead. It tells a lot about Nureyev. He never wished the male role anything less than the female's, if not equal.

  • MY goodness but the man was musical. The counter point and use of well I am over my head terminology-wise, Let's say. Lookee lookee.

There goes a genius. He could have excelled at anything. Thankfully he chose dance!

  • Yes, wonderful!
