"We've come full circle since 1961, back to when we had yet to show we could launch people into space," -Steven J. Dick, retired NASA chief historian.
I felt a very specific sadness when I read that in the NYT. I hope we don't forget about space. I hope we don't forget how much of the universe there is. I fantasize often about mars colonization and grew up reading science fiction that revolved around societies living in deep space and exploring foreign galaxies. My only hope is that we get back out there in my lifetime. I love you NASA and thanks for 30 years of manned space flight.
LOL: http://imgur.com/OyGEC but maybe I can help some other way! Is it possible to "donate" to NASA and write it off on taxes? Not to get too political here but they're using my money to buy the wrong kind of rocket right now.
Hey guys, make your own space video and put it in the responses. It breaks my heart to imagine all the astronauts dressed up for the big space party with no way to get there. I think I was over dramatic with the "dream too big to live" bit, but then I thought fuck it, this is serious business!
I couldn't decide on a song so I didn't use one. Play either in a new tab or just watch instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxVNOnPyvIU or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1XozsBN5Z4 but probably d'angelo, because I love him too, don't look at my boyfriend. I was thinking about NASA and listening to my boy d'angelo and you know, this video just seemed like a natural progression.
I wasn't that sad when I first heard about the last shuttle launch, I thought "no shit, that tech is 30 years old. Let's move onto the next thing". but then the vibe I get from the NYT article is that THERE IS NO NEXT THING in the works right now. Maybe I just haven't looked around enough. Please educate me as to what new things we are working on for shooting people into space.
