like the animation in 1989 but not the revamp 83 song is better

'83 definitely takes the title. '89, including the animation is more suitable for college.

I think we can all agree that this marks one of the few times where a network changed a theme without completely ruining it.

I love the NBA on CBS. As soon as you heard the theme on TV you knew it was gametime. The Classic brodcasting team of Dick Stockton & Hubbie Brown. Let's not forget sideline reporting of James Brown. And Brent Mustburger or Pat O'brien to host. Classic 80's NBA!!!

Do you have the '89 theme?

1989 gets the knod. More modern, and a perfect prelude to the upcoming decade/era. No more Celtics or Lakers. Plus the trombone solo, my horn of choice.

Philadelphia has something to celebrate now that they have won a World Series. The 25 year drought is no more.

Music-wise, the 1983-89 version had that dramatic/feel-good feel to it.
The 1989-90 (w/ a slight instrumental revision in 1990) version had the better opening graphics intro credits package that looked like it was ahead of its time (and w/ a few tweaks) it looked like it could still be used today if CBS were to ever regain the NBA rights from the awful ABC/ESPN.
The 89 was great but the old montage with the computer graphics with the Scoreboard were something amazing when I was a child. 83 Rules!

There's a reason why the '83 version is the one everyone remembers.
