Physics instructors Tom Herring and Robert Collier from Western Nevada College doing a science demonstration at Seeliger Elementary. Nice sunny day in Carson City Nevada and you can see the snow on the mountains in the background. Tom and Robert used 2 liters of liquid nitrogen, a 55 gallon steel drum and 4000 ping pong balls. As the nitrogen changes from liquid to gas it expands causing the bottle to rupture. This minor explosion generates enough energy to propel most of the ping pong balls 50 feet into the air.
