For about the past month and a half or so, I've been getting these weird lag-spikes in Team Fortress 2. It's not like normal lag where you just teleport around or anything, it's like the game just stops everyone in their tracks for 1-2 seconds. You're still moving, as is everyone else, you're just not SEEING the movement, it's like everyone just stops moving. Very irritating as it usually means that if it happens in a life-or-death situation in-game, you're going to die.
I've updated drivers, changed cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate values (both increasing and decreasing), I don't have nVidia Network Access Manager on my machine, I've deleted local content/reinstalled, only to find out that it not only happens in TF2, but in every other Source game that's playable online, as is evident in this footage I took while spectating a Counter-Strike: Source server.

  • ring your internet provider and confront them thats what i did

  • @hitheremynameisstuar

I've already fixed that problem, it was an issue with the adapter itself.

  • duuude. i have the exsact same problem and its annoying me so if you figure out how to fix it pleas tell me. thanx

  • Well, I managed to fix it the first time by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for my wireless adapter. Recently though I've had to go back to my internal wireless adapter and the problems returned, but after purchasing yet ANOTHER USB adapter (this time from DLink), I've not had this problem.

Moral of the story: Linksys sucks. :V

  • i think that might be sumthing to do with your internet

  • It does that no matter what connection I used though. I've tried it with 2 friend's connections, one fiber-optic and one cable (2Mb and 4Mb respectively), at the local cyber-cafe (6-7Mb) and at work (2-3Mb), but it still happens. I managed to fix it temporarily by uninstalling and reinstalling my wireless adapter's drivers, but the spikes have returned recently.

  • i have the same problem

  • @SerbianDukePwnage As I said previously, the problem I had was with the network adapter itself, I've not had this problem for a long time now.

  • @ZeroPointAlpha How i fix the lag spikes i have npt a bad network i have 54.0mbit in sec

  • I have the same problem I have no idea how to fix it. I don't have access to a hard wired connection so I haven't been able to try that. I'm pretty sure thats not what the problem is though my latency is usually really low.

  • same problem, but using a hardwired setup -.-

  • I've never had this problem until I defrag my computer...I think defraging my computer must have triggered something..

  • i have this problem for for 3 months now and it stops for about 10-20 secs. can anyone please help me!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok guys, i did some research because i have the same problem. Long story short, try downloading WLAN optomiser. It is a problem with windows wireless zero config, on xp you can disable it and this usually does the trick. On vista, its as far as i know unfixable. I've had several computer geeks check it out for me and been to loads of forums and it seems to be a common problem. Although my lag spikes arent comparable to this, i get small ones every few minutes. also disable/change your antivirus.
