So who is this man anyway then ? The Creato or some Nature Deity?

It depends :) Nobody really knows, but some Pagans see him as a God of oak trees, forests and vegetation in general. I like to associate him with the Celtic father god the Dhagda.

I've seen him twice, in trees by the road.

You should read a book called The Greenman Tales from the Mythic Forest. It's very good.

I saw a Green Man in a wood in Wales. To me (a Christian druid) he was a nature spirit, not a god, but he was the ruler of the wood.
