I have jotted down the tabs for this, they can be downloaded along with the new playing/introduction notes from the Stick Dulcimer playing page on my website here:
http://www.michaeljking.com
Today I am using the maple version of my Stick Dulcimer
I have picked this piece of music up from YouTube user Dulcimerea(who does the most amazing arrangements for Appalachian Dulcimer!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6kif1NK_Lk
He uses fingerpicking in his but I have simplified my version for the stick using just the plectrum.
BTW This is the main theme from
"Morrowind"(Bethesda softworks), one of The Elder Scrolls series, (I liked this tune so much I bought the game!!)

I am still learning this, (3 days now...) and my tabs are not completed fully, but its a great tune to try to play and it pushes what you can do on the stick Dulcimer!
BTW The maple stick Dulcimer in the video has a tilted back neck so that the bridge is 16mm high(my flat necked ones are 9/10mm) It does seem to project the sound out which may be great with other instruments.

  • Does the sound change when the body shape is different?

  • @deathslice60 Its more about the volume of air and soundboard size with the sound, a guitar has a bigger sound and deeper resonance. This instrument with its small body sounds nicer indoors, I will do a new variation of this soon inside.

  • I subscribed to you because I thought your videos were interesting and cool. But now that you've done Morrowind, you've ascended the Bifrost Bridge into stratospheric awesomeness! I've been playing the Elder Scrolls series games for over 10 years. I've dabbled with this tune on hammered dulcimer and fife. Very cool to hear it on the stick dulcimer.

  • Thanks! I have to confess, the music led me to the game, powerful stuff!! I actually purchased a copy to play (at some point, these things eat time itself!!) I am a retro gamer at heart in any case, the older games are more likely to work in emulation or windows mode in Linux for me!!

  • Opps ! I forgot, thank you for the tablature ;-) Have a nice day.

  • you are welcome!! I'm really hoping someone will do a ukulele version of this too at some point....I wish I had more time right now to do one myself!!
