President Obama claims to support America's exporting and so-called "green jobs" industries, but he also likes rules that restrict the importation of critical inputs to those industries. Antidumping rules are supposed to protect American manufacturers and, by extension, American jobs. But it doesn't work out that way.

great video!
Unfortunately politicians are too stupid to realize that the purpose of an economy is NOT to create jobs. The purpose of an economy is to increase the standard of living. Well, a few politicians understand. such as
Ron Paul for President 2012!

let me start by saying, I'm libertarian, however, I am not ignorant of the world market and what china actually does. this video tries to simplify things to an extreme, just to get their point across. if the end goal is lower prices for consumers, protectionism is NOT in the way. insurmountable regulation injures consumers 10T times more than protectionism. seems to work for china, and yet going into business IN china is easier than here. more domestic competition is far better for consumers

The video didn't claim there was only one magnesium company, but that only one company was claiming to be "the US industry" in the petition for putting the restrictions in-place.

I find it sad that people in the US take everything they see, as factual. I know china has terrible policies, including dumping, huge tariffs, and a no foreign ownership of companies. So the video sounded some huge red flags. I suspected foul play. So I then went and looked up magnesium companies. I found 21 different magnesium companies, in the US. Not hundreds, but far more than the ONE, the video claims. Clearly this video was made to cheer China and make you hate US politicians.

Screw those loser jobs. Anti-dumping laws keep people like me from being knee deep in garbage. I don't want to open my door and say, 'What's that smell and what killed all these animals?' Or 'Did this toxic waste kill the mailman?' Yeah. Those horrible anti-dumping laws. I always wondered what it would be like to contract full blown autism from mercury and toxic waste in my water supply.

Did you watch the clip? AD laws have a cost to the economy that results in jobs being lost. The problem is those jobs are harder to see, but it doesn't mean they aren't lost.
With the AD laws, one industry's jobs are saved. Without the laws, everyone that consumes the final products saves. It would be more economical to drop the laws, tax the consumers, and pay the affected workers not to work. The savings would actually outweigh the costs.
Most workers would find other jobs.
