  • @closescrape Your comment is idiotic and inaccurate. Read era history books, not Obama history books.

  • @closescrape Would you say the same of Kansas Jayhawkers?

  • War always brings out the best and worst in people. I have a suspision that many of the "Bush wackers" and "Jay Hawkers" including Jawhawkers in the appalachians, Kentucky and TN were simply apolitical bandits who far more in common with each other than the general population of each side.

  • @closescrape Your right, The video is good, However, many of the guerillas where nouthing more then murders who had no problems killing union or there own pro southerners, or anyone inbetween. if money and other items where not forth coming when they showed up at your door step in the middle of the night. Being murderd was common place, be you a women or a child or even a baby as some of the storys go. Alot of the raiders become nouthing but common scumbags not heros.

  • Recent studies have produced an accurate picture of the guerrilla and the Red Leg. Guerrillas defending their homes, Red Leg murdering and looting the guerrilla homes. Yankee lies have been debunked. One excellent new book is "Quantrill at Lawrence, the Untold Story" by Paul Petersen. Just one of many new studies that are finally beginning to show the truth.

  • I see a some comments here from those who do not know the true history. Missouri tried to stay neutral. Lincoln ordered it invaded. The Yankees looted and burned out homes all across the northern part of the state. Missourians fought back and became guerrillas Those on the western broader had to fight Yankees and Red Legs. Both murdered whole families and looted. The guerrilla killed only Yankees and Red Legs. They were Southern and did not kill women and children.

  • Interesting. Ive been studying the war for years, but I've never really looked into the Missouri/Kansas theatre. It's pretty hard to figure out but interesting! thanks for the video!

  • @dixiegirl4Christ you're right, dixiegirl.

  • There were two different types of people in Missouri at that time period: bushwackers and Missouri partisan rangers. A bushwacker was NOT a missouri partisan ranger or irregular cavalry unit but many people have pushed their names into that category to attribute atrocity and murder to their names. And they owed no allegiance to either North or South. This type was not from MO usually, they were of Federal extraction from states like Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, etc.

  • The pretty pictures and video in this video are misleading. For the most part civil war guerillas in mid America were equivalent of modern day meth dealers and street gangs that were taking advantage of the chaos of war.

There were exceptions but most of the bushwhackers should be compared to the modern day pirates from the Somalia cost and not glorified as brave patriots.
