This is a trip to Johns Meadow in the San Gorgonio Wilderness on 9/07/09. First is the map, followed by the junction with Jackstraw Springs. Then Forcee Creek and our camp at Johns Meadow, a weird looking caterpillar too. Then a short walk to the creek next to camp where I filter some water and my cousin picks some Currants to eat.

  • Also, are you sure those were currants? There is a bush that has shiny little red berries similar to those that your cousin ate, but they're poisonous as hell. Did your cousin get sick at all?

You've got to watch that shit. I studied a bit about edible wild foods. You need to have a guidebook of some kind in order to forage like that.

Now I'm not positive, but, to me, those berries looked like the poisonous kind.

  • No he did not get sick. I think he knows what to look for.

  • Hi David, I would love to hear a description while videoing, of what you are doing. Great spot!

  • I'll give it a try.

  • It's off of Hwy 38 near Big Bear.

  • OK, man.

  • Damn! You weren't kidding. That IS a weird caterpillar. You should send a picture to a forest ranger.

  • Is that off hwy 74 somewhere?
