mark vi all the way, more character

The 86 sounds a little ballsier and the MkVI a little more lyrical. Bet the Mauriat could be lightened up a little if that suited the player's style. The difference between Rollins and Coltrane on the MkVI was the difference between a 10* with soft reeds and a 4 or 5 with hard reeds.

i DONT KNOW IF I HAVE A GOOD SOUND ON MY SAX, PLEASE SEE MY VIDEO

They are both amazing, especially in the hands of a brilliant player such as yourself. I found myself switching between horns... However, the Mark VI does have a little more edge I think, but its mainly only noticeable side by side, and so overall, the Mark VI is a better horn, but as far as practicality goes, the Mauriat is fantastic for its price.

good sound

Both horns are incredible. The Mark VI is better I think, but not by too much. But the mauriat is probably a LOT more affordable.
Now don't crucify me here, but I like the 86 more. It's actually BECAUSE the VI is brighter that I like the 86. The 86 has a darker, more resonant sound, which is what I'm looking for. It basically almost comes down to Rollins vs. Coltrane. Do you want to sound Sonny, or John? I personally am partial to the darker sound of Rollins.
But thanks for the video, this is definitely going to help ne out here, and excellent playing.

Thanks for your comments!! Hey I play the 86 over my mark 6 for similar reasons but they both are great!

I'm not sure if its the reed or the horn....but the 86UL sounds like it has a few minor leaks, especially in the lower register. As always Roger, you sound incredible!!!! Love your playing!

There are no leaks. the microphone is distorting more on the 86 as it has a bigger / louder sound--- using laptop to record!!
