Zack Pimentel was the first person in his family to graduate from high school. That he went on to graduate from medical school made him feel like he "won the lottery more than once." Educated at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, Dr. Pimentel and his childhood friend, Dr. James Perez, now provide medical care to the people of Burlington, CO, the rural town where their parents once worked as migrant laborers. Burlington, like rural areas all over the country, once struggled to attract and keep physicians. So the town paid two native sons to go to medical school in hopes that the pair would return and serve their community. For 12 years, they have served admirably, doing everything from setting broken bones to prescribing antibiotics to delivering babies.
