Joseph Calleja, tenor

Ingemisco

Verdi - Requiem

BBC Symphony Orchestra

Semyon Bychkov, conductor

...

Ingemisco tamquam reus,
culpa rubet vultus meus;
supplicanti parce, Deus.

Qui Mariam absolvisti,
et latronem exaudisti,
mihi quoque spem dedisti.

Preces meae non sunt digne,
sed tu, bonus, fac benigne,
ne perenni cremer igne.

Inter oves locum praesta,
et ab haedis me sequestra,
statuens in parte dextra.

  • Che possente Joseph Calleja!

E ascoltatelo con un prodigio, un soprano non ancòra quattordicenne, Giada Borrelli (trasmissione "Ti lascio una canzone", Rai, 2011).

  • This is simply sublime singing - at last a truly great tenor to take the mantle of the past greats.

  • Fantastic!

  • I just love the way his voice is keeping together in all registers!

  • Beautiful voice.

  • Meglio!!! Thank you for posting this

  • this is breathtakingly beautiful! such an honest singer, very moving ... a class of its own!!

  • Don't know where i have been but just discovered Calleja on youtube. Have been listening to clips from 2007 on. His timbre and hue and releases were much warmer in the early (age 29?) than 09 & 010. Then I hear the live in performance of La Donna Mobile & now the Verdi in 2011 & he morphs into another level of maturity. Understand all this fine critiquing has come after 2 whole hours. I do hear a brighter, silky Bjorlingnesque so I very anxious to hear what he becomes in 5 years.

  • fantastic singing! I was there that night, and Calleja was out of this world. in fact, the only thing that matched the vocalism that night was the acting. great singing, and even better acting. opera singers are some of the least religious people in the world. And yet look how Furlanetto pretends to be troubled and moved by the text, look how sincere Calleja pretends to be. you'd think they went to mass every day! amazing artists, bravo Calleja!

  • Exceptional performance.
