Retired vice admiral Nigel Brodeur, a former vice chief of defence staff to Conservative and Liberal governments condemns the power grabbing political charade now taking place in The Canadian parliament.

Brodeur says Canada also has a lot to learn from the bi-partisanship of Obama's incoming administration, which now has a Republican defence secretary in Robert Gates, and Obama's main party rival in Clinton as secretary of state.

"There was a stunning contrast yesterday between the statesmanship displayed by president-elect Obama with his national security team and the complete lack of statesmanship in Canada's Parliament. A great many Canadians will have noted that contrast and be disgusted with Canada's politicians," Brodeur wrote in an e-mail to Conservative and Liberal MPs.

"We are witnessing a deplorable and juvenile scene which demeans its participants, and also further erodes the residual prestige of a Canada, which in both world wars achieved greatness and international respect."

  • does anyone think he soundsl ike winston churchill? Anyone? Just a little?

  • I am an immigrant to Canada, and I know there is SO MUCH potential in the brave men and women of this country's Armed Forces that is regrettably grossly underappreciated by our political masters. Our military sorely lack state-of-the-art equipment, and the little that we do have are downright dangerous (I remember the fire aboard the HMCS Chicoutimi, formerly HMS Upholder, killing Lt. Chris Saunders, husband and father of two.)

I salute you Vice Adm. Brodeur. R.I.P. Lt. Saunders.

  • The real threat to Canada are the clowns in Parliament who want to dump Harper. Admiral Brodeur is an honorable man who states the situation as it is. It's deplorable what the coalition is attempting.
