Alright, Everybody calm down.
Prodigyexam12 I did use the word sentient on my second reply man. cut me some slack... yeah i see how i may have looked to certain individuals out there when i'm using "human like" alright alright.... lets let it go and move on...

about why are we sentient.... yeah... why? and why is every creature under the sun a potential sentient being?

doesn't that change the view of religion of how we're the "only" beings that are "mystical"?...

my question is, will other well developed animals, like dogs cats or even dolphins, be more human like if left alone for the next 2.5 million years? given that humans are not around to fuck it up?

no, because they have evolved in a different path. remember, animals evolve to adapt to their situation. a lion in africa does not need to evolve to accomodate its surroundings. unless another astroid hits earth and wipes out all land animals, there will be no need for a great leap in evolution because frankly, humans are the great leap. until we're gone, there will be none to challenege our superiority.

but my question still remains... my question is just looking at the evidence of species evolving. If we take a step back and we look at the entire picture (without being self-centered) we can say that every species (in the universe) is a potential sentient being

Oh great, another moron who doesn't understand speciation.

Cats cannot become dolphins because they're on a different evolutionary line.

Dolphins cannot become humans because, again, they are on a different evolutionary line.

The only thing that can happen if 2.5 million years pass is that the animals on this earth will adapt even more to their specific enviroments. For e.g., dolphins will be more adept at living in an aquatic enviroment.

That hard to understand?

you are the one that does not understand the question and you are quick to call me a moron... I wasn't referring that dogs or any other animal will become more "human like" that's freaking impossible, we all know that!! and you're an idiot for thinking that.... what I am saying is that other species will become more human like in the sense of being sentient beings. in their own shape or form..... obviously you lack imagination to even see this happening... a*hole

You do realize that the word for what you were meaning is "sentient", right?

Instead of saying "more human like", which is pretty obvious what it implies, you could have said sentient which pretty much sums up what you were trying to say.

To answer your question, yeah. Animals can become sentient. This begs for the question has to why they would become sentient. Evolution's ultimate goal isn't for animals to become sentient, it's for them to adapt.

If it's not prevalent, then it's a more recent development than traits which are prevalent.
