Anderson, Indiana 12/06/2009 ─ The area Non-Profits of Madison County Indiana came together today for an Alternative Gift Fair held in the Reardon Auditorium of Anderson University.
The fund raising efforts of today was bolstered in that Hoosier Park, even with them being in the news lately over its own financial concerns, once again extended their support to the community by matching, in part, todays fund raising gifts from those who attended the event.
Non Profit organizations through out the U.S. have been among the hardest hit of any segment of our society during the recent recession. Corporate and private donations have fallen off sharply which has lead to many non profits to cut back in their social and community activities everywhere.
The most recent effort to bolster non profits position was announced by the Better Business Bureaus Wise Giving Alliance. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance announced that it would use the flexibility permitted under its Standards for Charity Accountability to consider the recessions impact when evaluating charities fund raising and program expense ratios (See Story).
What has concerned communities everywhere is that when their local non profits are forced to cut back those in need of help then to local governmental groups who are themselves finding tough going because of the current recession.
