Take a short ride on several Translink articulated diesel buses made by New Flyer in Winnipeg, the famous D60LF. This journey will take you along one of the most interesting routes in the lower mainland of Great Vancouver, the 98 B-Line, an express limited-stops service between downtown Vancouver and Richmond Centre via Airport Station, a major transfer point for passengers going to Airport terminal. At the end of the video, get a taste of a "whining bus" which makes a very unique whistling sound.

  • According to a Translink service-person, this is perhaps the explanation:

"The loud whistling sound is due to air pushed by the cooling fan, passing

through the radiator. The installation of a baffle is supposed to fix it."

  • @GordonFreemanD40 - I guess you didn't read the video description. Because he is referring to when the bus is slowing down starting at about 8:03 in the video.

  • @newflyer3000 what did the destination guy say at the beginning about the airport

  • When I was in Vancouver we took the 99 B-Line and that was the exact same type of bus that we rode. It was fully packed with people

  • its the MAN axles that make that sound

  • I sure wish WMATA had these awesome buses...

    O_o

  • When I was in Vancouver, a lots of D40LF make the same noises, especially those on route 41 to Joyce Station

  • i miss the 98 b-line but i love the canada line

  • found out the "whistling" sound on all New Flyer buses (which make them so unique) is the driveshaft. Only buses I know besides New Flyers that make that sound is the Neoplan AN440LF.

  • Ill admit its engine sounds just like our rapid bus in AZ its called the NABI 45C-LFW

    also know as NABI compobus

  • No, they've been replaced by automatic GPS stop-annunciators. But i still think the bus driver's voice sounds better than a computer voice :P
