Yes, as i told you i have dnepr experience, also with the worse quality, which was, as i am told, also exported to your country.
It surprises me that a dnepr is a popular bike, because it will break down all the time and spare parts are often of abd quality.
I would assume a jawa or mz, which are more reliable and easier in design and parts, would be more popular!
Fast bikes would be useless because of the lack of good roads? or because they do not offer a cargo-substitute for a car?

This country is a weird place to be in 21st century Europe. We're in full economical crysis because of many things, including malevolence, incompetence and utter lack of interest. State-employed teachers get paid about €200-€400 a month and prices aren't that much lower. For some, salvation comes from emigration, illegal business, Erasmus, hedonism, alcohol (or other vice) or riding Jawas and Dneprs. At least the latter get to feel like they evade corporatism and dependency.

As for the bikes.. 175 cc jawa is not much.. MZ is a little more powerfull (were they equally easy to get in your area?) travelling with passenger is quite impossible.
But it must be for the biggest part home-to--work transport for the men??
Then i can imagine a 175 being less expensive to buy, in fuel and in parts..
Was a 250 MZ or 350 jawa a big step up?

Well, i'm interested in social and economic development in eastern EU.
As for the 'hot topic' i understand you are not keen on a discussion- youtube movies also tend to create an image. We see skinhead-like people on russian sidecars imaging nazi-bikes and outfit on tour to a nazi bunker... This and more people with very short hair from eastern europe countries, gives 'us' an image of a racistic country.
But.. maybe not all young eastern-european men with very short hair is like that

Damn, this subject is so broad! I can't get a decent vantage point to even begin to explain.
Let's just say we're being taught into buying large-bore, short-stroke speeders to compensate for small-sized teenage balls. Make it aggressive, make it vroom, make it bling and voilá! You've got yourself a corner of the market. But others such as myself can't afford and don't like such bikes. Instead, we opt for old two-strokers and Dneprs: makes noise, runs the part and it's cheap.

Yes i understand, and i can imagine a people living in your country in such a regime is scarred in every way of attitude. This generation raising their children must have a big influence on them- and the current culture- also.
The same phenomenon we know from the generation after the war..But it will be difficult to compare
But- in short- can you tell me, my wife has a dark skin-she's part indonesian- would you consider your country to be 'unsafe' for her when we travel on enfield or jawa?

Do pardon for not replying to your last message. But I found it quite offensive. How's about you come over and see for yourself? Good journey!

part 2: Maybe i'm overestimating romania's progress after the fall of the wall, The most 'east' i've seen was tsjech republic in recent years.
I thought that in the meanwhile, most motorcyclist would have jap- and EU bike with 60 HP or more..

The Czech Republic (as I've always known and as it was confirmed to me after sharing a room with a Czech lad for four months this year) has had a proud modern history. Hard-workers, interested politicians, enthusiastic motorcycle builders and a humorous folk overall. I'm not saying we're more or less than they are. I'm just saying they've always been miles ahead and they are proud of what they are. That's hardly Eastern Europe, sir :). It's Central Europe in all respects!
