The company I work for, Urban Miners, recently salvaged 15,000 lbs of old radiators (circa 1900) from a Yale University building in New Haven, CT. Moving those things down 4 flights of stairs was quite a job, but the fact that these artifacts from the turn of the century will be reused instead of trashed is rewarding in its own right.

Here Pete, Joe and I take one of the bigger ones down the stairs.

  • Great. Now I know how to get the old rads out of my house. Thanks! Great idea!

  • so 15000 pounds of old cast iron radiators, whats that, about 2 of them?

  • so they can actually still be used? how do these things not break?! I guess they dont make things like they used to...

  • I have to do the same thing, but I need to bring one UPSTAIRS. They're not just heavy, they're dogass heavy.
