This is a custom Mindstorms NXT creation, it's got rack and pinion steering, and sensors to avoid running into things. The programming could use a bit more work though. www.motocube.com
i HAVE MADE A NICE CAR TOO ITS ON nxtlog UNDER THE NAME car1. I also have a very nice avoidance program where the robot stps when it sees something, scans 4 directions and uses variables and comparing blocks to dtermine the farthest distance in which it then travels and repeats the program.
