So this one was quite a bit harder than most. We sang it quite slow, and some of our phrases' pitch suffered from time to time. This was difficult because it was the first multitrack I've done with 2 mics simultaneously.

Brodie Cuff (brodiecuff) - Bass and Lead
Danny Fong (daniscool99) Tenor and Baritone

No, the recording does not have any autotuning or melodyne [UNLIKE THE NEW MAX Q CD - so dissapointing]. Youtube can make it sound a little robotic but it sounds pretty decent in HD, you just gotta give it a bit of time to render if your internet isn't incredibly fast.

Recorded with 2 Apex 435 Mics through an M-audio pre usb. Audio mixed in Logic Pro, and video in Final Cut Pro

  • This is absolutely brilliant! Me and my friends put a kind of programme thing on Youtube every month - would you mind if we put your name and a link to this video so that our viewers can watch this?? :D It's called GNTV (Grant's News TV) - if you want to take a look! I really love this arrangement and you guys have really made a beautiful thing of it because your voices blend really well together! I love it!!!!! :D:D:D:D

  • @jasonsweeney1 You're more than welcome to do that, thanks for asking :)

  • I've tried this same thing. Same exact song. Same exact arrangement. Only I tried it by myself, and I have to say these guys are missing one key element I have in mine: the train wreck. Great job guys, hopefully I can get this down someday!

  • @tartanmusician Haha I was reading along slowly and saw "these guys are missing one key element" and I was already thinking.. oh great, some other random guy telling me how imperfect I am.. and I loled when I kept reading on. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. Some people don't realize how much work it is to make something sound NICE until they try it themselves. There's a lot more work than just standing in front of a microphone and knowing how to sing.

    Good luck to you!

  • Unless a singer, no matter how talented, has tried to do this, it's impossible even to imagine how very, very difficult is to accomplish. It takes more than a good vocal range and an excellent ear for harmony, especially when those harmonies are so close as they are here. This is just an incredibly beautiful piece of music. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

  • @1079walter Thanks for understanding how much work it is to do this :)

  • We are singin this song in choir and it's absolutely gorgeous. They did a wonderful job!

  • I went to do some stuff opposite of this, and I didn't realize it was still playing when I came back. I was surprised and, as per the usual, enjoying this very much. Thank you for the work and effort you put into these pieces sir.

  • @friendofsquid I completely agree! The chords are spot on and the blend is fantastic. Even the balance is nice - which is rare for barbershop videos. The bass isn't too "in your face" and the tenor just floats above and the BARITONE - fantastic job Danny with staying out of the way. I know that trying to get this piece to speak is extremely difficult to do when timing is everything - but I think you could do it. Great job - thanks for sharing your gifts.

  • @daniscool99

I am in an acapella group at UVA and we recently sang at the white house's Christmas Party and they invited us to do another performance in the spring with a request from a staff member for Lullaby by Billy Joel. INSTANTLY I thought of this arrangement and how perfect you guys sound and I am wondering if I could somehow get this arrangement from you. My email is tbm3x@virginia.edu

    THANKS!

  • who is the arranger?

  • Bravo! Bravo!

Now that you have this down so well you might want to film it again. This time have the tenor/baritone singer move his mike down so we can see his face. With practice maybe you can do this up to tempo. It will be even more brilliant.

  • Honestly, an extremely wonderful arrangement of an extremely beautiful work by an extremely revered musician. Best of luck gentlemen, and may you keep creating outstanding works yourselves...

  • Sometimes I listen to this and pretend you're lulling me to sleep:)

  • dude I cant tell you how many times I can listen to this without getting tired of it. wicked good.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

If I knew how to sing and/or understood technology, I'd so try to do what they did. This is truly awesome!!!
