The talk focused on identifying the limitations of current risk scoring systems in patients with cirrhosis, stating the impact of hepatic encephalopathy on patients with liver disease, relating the pathophysiology of hepatic encephalopathy to the rationale for different therapeutic options, describing interventions to manage risk and the consequences of variceal bleeding and ascites in patients with cirrhosis, assessing treatment strategies for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, evaluating the role of antiviral therapy in patients with cirrhosis, and describing evidence-based management strategies to individualize therapy according to risk.
