Welcome to VPT (Virtual Percussion Technology) For Drummies! In this introductory video, we explain how easy it is to set up your electronic drums for use with Triggering Drum Software.

Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 / 2.1 is being used here, but you may also use these methods for BFD2, EZdrummer, Addictive Drums and so on.

Keep in mind that VPT is all about 3 things: Real Feel, Real Look, and Real Sounds! VPT is best when you use the RET Percussion electronic drums, VPT Drum Software, and a decent trigger to midi interface like the Alesis Trigger Io.

  • If im buy a R.E.T. Percusion drumkit. Do i need a Firebox to conect it to my computer?

  • You don't NEED a Firebox, but it does help with controlling latency. Latency is the time it takes to hear the sample playback from when you hit the drum. The Firebox also gives you 6 outputs so you can have multiple outputs for your kit!

Not an absolute necessity, but highly recommended.

  • subscribed. Thx so much buddy for helping us out. Its so great i can pretty much get help with most of my daily stuff on youtube.

  • Hey i want to get the stuff at 3:45 how much does that stuff cost, the items that reduce latency.

  • does anybody know if profire 2626 will work stuff will work just as good for edrum latancy issues as the prosonus firebox he mentions in here? please help?!?!? thank you

  • This is for retads, omg, i was looking for something to trigger alesis io with xln ad to fix hh and appears a guy thats say i have to plug cables ... :( well ... no good!

  • This is all very interesting. I saw your website, very informative. But I still have one question. My laptop doesnt have a firewire connection so I cant connect the Presonus Box. My question: where exactly is the latency ? Is it from the Trigger iO to the laptop or is it in the laptop sound card reproducing the drum hit ?

  • Mike: THANK YOU! for the clear and through style of you're tutorial. I am waiting for the ALESIS TRIGGER I/O to arrive from musicians friend and can't wait to hook it up to my Ion set. Will be checking out ur other vids.

  • @MikeyVPT Yeah I do. That isn't it... But hey whatever. Have a great day!
