Jesus died for everyone, all people, everywhere, every time, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I agree with Cone that Jesus lived and died for the powerless. But Jesus likewise did the very same for the powerful. God is no respecter of persons. Jesus taught about personal salvation and redemption, which had little to do with the powerful and the powerless in civil society except as it motivated individuals to desire a more equitable society.
