@KhaelaCH This TV special ("The Temptations Show") was shot over several days in pieces; it's not a live performance, so they had time to wipe everyone down before takes. It was well known that Paul Williams had a serious drinking problem by 1969, and that he blows a few of the steps (that HE helped choreograph) and misses a bit of his lip sync (in the end, not shown in this abbreviated clip) would indicate that he was very likely drunk, nevermind the perspiration.

@marjory62 Actually, this entire song is prerecorded, vocals and all (assuming by "playback", you meant backup tapes).
