Madison Bumgarner Major League Debut - First Pitch 9/8/2009

This is a video I took of Madison Bumgarner's first Major League pitch on Sept 8th, 2009 against the Padres. He did not expect to start, but suddenly Tim Lincecum was scratched due to back spasms. I wonder if his folks had enough notice to attend?? First pitch was a strike as you can see. According to commentator Mike Krukow (who was himself a pitcher), he did very good and is a player to keep an eye on. His first at bat is not captured here but he took a very aggressive swing at his first pitch and in a later at bat hit a deep fly ball. He got taken out in the 6th by Bruce Bochy and that's the second clip in this video...
He surrendered two runs in 5 1/3 innings and left with a one-run lead and a chance for a victorious Major League debut. But San Francisco's usually reliable bullpen softened in a 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres.

He's not overated, any mistakes he makes now till about 2 years is natural, it doesn't matter what he did in legion ball... He's a big leaguer now!

although im a dodger fan, im looking forward to watching this kid for a long time, saw him a few times last season at single A when he won Minor league pitcher of the year. giants picked up an ace.

i actually work with Madison's dad and no they didn't have enough notice to attend. His dad told me that he booked a flight out there for the day aftter this video and then Madison called him and gave him the news that he would be starting. Sadly his dad had to watch on tv. but he was very proud nonetheless
