The Happy Wanderer was sung at the memorial celebration of the life of much beloved Dr. Edgar A. Wayburn, mentor to generations of conservationists around the world. The memorial was held at the Presideo in San Francisco's Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Our friend Ed lived a full 103 years! http://www.sierraclub.org/history/wayburn/
Over 100 million acres were preserved for all time as park land thanks to Edgar.
The Happy Wanderer or Der fröhliche Wanderer was written by Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Happ...
I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.
Chorus
Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh may I always laugh and sing
Beneath God's clear blue sky!
Laurie Wayburn -- Cello
Diana Wayburn -- Flute
The memorial was organized by Ed's daughter Laurie Wayburn, President of the Pacific Forest Trust
