Thanks again for all the kind words and thoughts. It is November and I am happy to report that he is gaining weight, has a full coat of thick winter hair and seems to have no ill effects from his ordeal except he really loves to be rubbed on his forehead-which I did when I had to clean out his abscess. Can't say enough about much I bonded with him out of this terrible situation. If you have a horse that has to go through this don't give up on them!

I am sooo glad to hear that your horse is back to normal. He/she has beautiful blue eyes!!!

Thanks for the compliment! He has two blue eyes. My husband said that Native Americans called horses with two blue eyes "ghost horses" and they were considered to possess the spirits of the ancestors(not sure on the accuracy historically but I like it!). Thanks for wishing him well- we sure needed it!

Good news to report. He was treated with Tucaprim since this posted and has finally had over a week of normal temperature. Additionally, the swelling has gone down in his legs and his breathing is not audible. He is obviously feeling better as he bucked and jumped around his stall. Gave him a light workout yesterday(intended to only walk him) but all he wanted to do was run!

2 vets diagnosed strangles. The first diagnosis video and this are 1 mon. apart. The abscess was lanced & his condition improved significantly for two weeks. Then he started running a fever again and the runny nose occurred (understatement I know- gross!) The small red bump shown is where the abscess was lanced- it healed amazingly well- from size between quarter to half dollar that was deeper than 1" to that small area. (Treated with betadine wash, and covered with neosporin and SWAT daily).
